Initially, much of my study of Career Development Theory was self-taught since career counseling was not covered when I was getting my master's degree. I read about Super, Holland, and other theorists in order to have a better understanding of the process and concepts these two provided.

In 2002, I enrolled in COUN 7290 Career Development and Vocational Appraisal as part of the courework required to fulfil requirements to sit for the NCE. Within that course, I learned about the newer theorists in career development as well as the traditional ones.
Mark Savickes' career theory fits well with my approach to career counseling as I like to gather information from the student about their life and personal interests along with using their Holland's codes and MBTI type.
